Academy
About the academy
The Border Canoe Club Academy offers youngsters an opportunity to experience paddling as a sport.
The only requirement is that youngsters are able to swim and they will undergo a swim test before they start to paddle.
We provide coaching and equipment (paddle, boat and life jacket). K1’s are available so juniors are also welcome.
Youngsters are encouraged to come and try it out and if keen they then join the Border Canoe Club, and Canoeing South Africa.
Children under the age of 12 may be able to utilize Academy equipment during coaching times. All children under the age of 12 using Academy equipment are required to wear a lifejacket and paddle under the supervision of a responsible adult.
Finances shouldn't be a limitation
Our exchange programme with Lower Saxony in Germany means that juniors who excel in Sprint paddling can benefit from taking part in coaching camps here when the German team visit and if selected travel to Germany as part of the Eastern Cape Canoe Union team sponsored by the Department of Sport, Arts Recreation and Culture
